Immunology: From AIDS to ZZZZZ
 

Purpose

This activity  is to provide an update and overview of immunological principles and pearls as they relate to clinical nursing. The first part of the lecture updates the general principles of the immune system  followed by what’s new in the world of inflammation.  The world of T cells, B cells, and natural killer cells will be explored and correlated with infections and conditions observed in clinical practice.

Objectives
Upon completion of this activity, the participant will be able to:

  • Describe the three general principles of the immune system.

  • Discuss the role of inflammation and how it relates to the function of the immune system.

  • Describe the two arms of the immune system – cell mediated immunity and humoral immunity.

  • Discuss the myriad of drugs to treat inflammation and to suppress the immune system.

  • Describe the 5 types of immunopathology.

  • Discuss the new concepts in the immune system manipulation.

 

Successful completion for nursing contact hours

  • Payment of $25/person

  • Complete evaluation form

  • Complete and submit the 10 item post test

  • Scoring of at least 75% is required for successful completion.
